Benefits of Eating Berries

It is known that eating berries on a regular basis can help improve health. Many seniors are aware that dark colored berries can be a great source of antioxidants, protecting the body from some forms of cancer. Now, there are studies that reveal berries have additional benefits. They can help with brain function and can improve the health of the brain.

1.    Fresh or frozen acai berries, strawberries and other berries that are deep in color have health benefits for seniors. In addition to these berries, walnuts can also be beneficial in maintaining brain health.

2.    The reason for this benefit is because these berries contain polyphenolics. These plant compounds have been scientifically shown to help reduce the mental effects of aging.

’3.    As we age, the brain declines and is unable to clean the toxic litter that builds up. This eventually interferes with mental and cognitive functioning. The berries can help the brain remove the toxins and avoid mental decline.

4.    Berries are the best source of the compounds needed to promote brain health; however, other fruits and vegetables can be beneficial. These include foods that are deep red, purple and blue. The darker the color of the fruit or vegetable, the more benefits it will provide.
