Older Women’s Chemo Benefits

Many women are diagnosed with cancer when they are older. Just because these women are seniors, it does not mean that they should not be allowed the same cancer treatment as younger patients. Many studies have recently indicated that older women with cancer benefit greatly from chemo treatment. The list below provides some facts about chemo as well as the many benefits to aging women.

1. Many older patients may not have been offered chemo as a treatment option because of their age. Research has proven that older women do in fact benefit from this form of cancer treatment.

2. Women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the early stages are far more likely to live a longer life if they receive chemo treatment.

3. For many years, senior women were not offered chemo treatment because doctors and researchers were concerned about the toxic effects of the treatment. Recent studies have shown that older women do just fine with this treatment.

4. Women who are not receiving chemo treatment have a higher chance of death. They also are more likely to have the cancer return.

5. Chemo is one of the most effective treatments for senior women who have been diagnosed with cancer. The side effects are less than with other treatments and the success rate is much higher, allowing women to live long and healthy lives after their treatments.
